It is always the same kid just tearing it up on the flat concrete. Something needed to be done!” Kid was was 3 years old. The video then shows Dave the homeowner, drawing a racetrack on his driveway in the middle of the night. The next evening the young boy rode his bike on the track. Whenever it would rain, Dave would draw a new, different shaped racetrack on the driveway for the young boy to navigate, eventually adding improvements, such as labels for parts of the course “the back straight”, “slow”, “eyes up” and finally “For The Win” at the finish line!! TOPIC INTRODUCTION Top 10 Inspirational/Motivational Movies Today we are going to count down my top 10 inspirational/motivational movies. These are the movies that make you feel good, or make you want to work out, or just instill a feeling of inspiration. 10. The Kings Speech The King’s Speech is a 2010 British historical drama. Colin Firth plays the future King George VI who, to cope with a stammer, sees Lionel Logue, an Australian speech and language therapist played by Geoffrey Rush. The men become friends as they work together, and after his brother abdicates the throne, the new king relies on Logue to help him make his first wartime radio broadcast upon Britain’s declaration of war on Germany in 1939. Oscar for Best Picture in 2011 9. Shawshank Redemption “The Shawshank Redemption” tells the inspiring story of Andy Dufresne, a man who’s wrongfully convicted. Even though he’s sentenced for life, Andy Dufresne decides to make the best of his situation. The message of the movie is highly inspiring. It shows you how important it is to never ever give up, no matter how difficult things seem to be. 8. Braveheart Not much is known about Wallace, known as Braveheart, except that according to an old epic poem, he unified the clans of Scotland and won famous battles against the English before being captured, tortured and executed as a traitor. So the movie is fiction, based on very few facts. But it does inspire and who can forget the last scene where Wallace screams “FREEDOM” as he is being tortured and killed. 7. Apollo 13 A story of things gone wrong and the effort, determination and challenge to bring home three astronauts stranded in space! 6. Dead Poets Society A story about challenging young men to thinks for themselves, to realize their own potential and self-esteem and to ultimately follow their dreams. 5. Hoosiers This is a movie about a tiny Indiana high school that sends a team all the way to the state basketball finals in the days when schools of all sizes played in the same tournaments and a David could slay a Goliath. While many of the scenes in this movie can border on corny or ridiculous, it works in the framework of building a team 4. Breaking Away This is a coming of age story about 4 friends who have recently graduated from high school and are not sure what to do with their lives. Dave is obsessed with cycling and Italian culture and enters the Indiana University Race. Not to spoil it, but this is an underdog story that just makes you feel good. 3. Karate Kid So many lines and jokes have been made about this movie. However, it is a feel good classic that tells the great story of the underdog overcoming fear, disadvantages to do something special. 2. Rudy The story of a determined young man desperate to play football for Notre Dame University. While the movie is not totally accurate to fact, it does provide that sense of inspiration for someone singly focused on a goal and refusing to give up. Honorable Mentions: Remember The Titans, A Beautiful Mind, Good Will Hunting, Miracle, 42 1. Rocky Who hasn’t watched Rocky and just had the urge and drive to do their own training montage!! Inspirational, feel good and the perfect underdog story! NEXT EPISODE: How to Get and Stay Motivated! Change your thinking, change your life! Laugh hard, run fast, be kind. Listeners, I let you go!
